I think, with the whole going behind the troops back, it's because the troop doesn't really trust her because she is part shadow... they don't trust that part of her to do the right thing, and some of the things she does are very shadow-like, so then they have more reason to not trust her as much. People only see the bad things ... they can never hold onto the good. why do you think all we get on the news is all the shit that went wrong during the day and no cute heart warming stories. we see the bad, shake our heads at it, and while our eyes are closed to mourn or dispair over the bad, the good happens, and we miss it.

Hi Grom, First, being new to the board doesn't mean you're not free to voice your opinion. You're a reader, a person fer gosh sake's, and you're perfectly entitled to your opinions. You're born with the right to chime in. (I'm teaching my kidlet the same thing. ) As to Jo's inability to learn from her mistakes ... are you sure it's not just because you're on a reread? True, she's fallible, but she has two things in her favor: her intentions are always good...at least for the overall good. She's not making decisions in a vacuum, but in an imperfect world. Sometimes there isn't a "good" or "right" choice -- only the best she can do. She does, at least, strive to do her best at all times. Second, she rarely makes the same mistake twice. The whole of the series thus far has not yet spanned a full year. She's playing catch up in the Zodiac world, thrown in and, at times, left to her own devices. That's fine -- she is used to depending solely on herself. It's not in her DNA to sit around and wait to be saved, and those two factors are a major part of her impulsiveness. When you're unsure of the rules of the world around you, and naturally distrustful of people anyway - and Jo is a loner; by nature and nurture - then it takes awhile to learn to trust and lean on others. It's a big part of Jo's journey, and it doesn't come easy. As to Ashlyn, she hasn't forgotten her at all. Again, the time frame is approximately 9 months from when Jo underwent metamorphosis, and she's been a bit ...preoccupied with staying alive for the majority of it (not to mention on her heels). While Jo faces new dangers in each novel, the relationship threads - Ashlyn, Ben, Hunter, Zoe - are threaded throughout. One additional complicating factor re. Ashlyn is that Jo had blocked out her existence entirely (due to her perceived parentage and trauma at the time of her birth) and doesn't yet think of her as her daughter. That's going to take time. But trust me, it's going to be addressed. She knows it has to -- Ash's second life cycle isn't far off. And so glad to hear I'm not writing computer manuals! ;D

Thanks for the time frame reminder, Vicki. It certainly helps put things in perspective. Imagine going through all that in less than a year. Most of us would curl up in a ball and be babbling at this point.

Vicki, thank you for taking the time to reply to my grommbles :-)
After the full reread and finally getting the timeline firmly settled into my brain, I can see and follow some of what your talking about. The loner, the impulsiveness, the non-trusting of anyone else... I guess I was stuck thinking years not months on her learning curve!
I have to say though, as to Ashlyn... Whoo Dogs!! You have given yourself quite a pickle there! I would not want to be in your writing chair for it. By the end of the third book, I did see Jo making headway to working it out, so was glad to see that. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
Oh and Carnagsehls, you may be spot on about the troop not trusting her shadow side, but it also strikes me as a never-ending circle... She goes behind their backs, because she doesn't trust them nor she she feel trusted by them. They don't trust her beacuse she goes behind their backs... And so on.

that's life grom ... our actions affects other peoples decisions about us ... other peoples decisions about us affect how we act. if someone thinks I'm a bitch and don't want to give me the time of day, then I'm not going to feel overly inclined to be nice to them to try to change their perception.
oh, and Grom, you can just call me Crash .... the user name on here is Crash's angel mixed together.

I think Vicki has setup prequel books or a series now.
The stories of: A) Hunter/JJ and Solange B) Hunter/changling(he killed?) C) MidHeaven itself.
Interesting that the changling shows up in MidHeaven on the poster as Mortal. It would be interesting to hear more about how the poster works.

I think that would be great too. YA is a huge genre right now and it would be a whole diff prespective on your universe.
But, defiantly focus on Jo. I am so upset with how book four ended! Didn't throw the book but I am still WTF!!
Love ya though your evil ploy worked!!!! I am totally hooked!! Jessica

If it's any consolation, I was upset as well.

I know! It's horrible to read Vick's books so damn fast, and get to the end, then sit there thinking:
1. I CAN'T believe she did that. 2. Wow, I really can't believe she did that. 3. I NEED the next book NOW.
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
