Hi. Miss me? *I* missed me. Okay, I'm going to be honest here. I handed in THE NEON GRAVEYARD, draft1, last week. Slept for a day. Fell into a vat of sangria for the weekend. Then I heard today that my editor *loves* it, and there will be no major rewrite - just tweaking and expanding and filling the existing story out a bit more. Work, but not work-work, yanno? So even though I had to turn the internet off and run away from home, I essentially "done good." Do I get a cupcake? What about you troublemakers? Vampy, Jeaniene told me she got to meet you at one of her signings. I'm so jealous! Everyone gets to meet the infamous Vampyre but me! And what of the rest of you? Have *you* all been eating cupcakes? *grumble, grumble* Anyway, good to be back. Thanks for keeping the place swept.

Yay! August thread! And hooray that your editor loves TNG!! Great news. I would say that deserves a cupcake or two. So, are you happy with the way TNG came out?
On my front, my daughter got herself engaged last Friday to a great guy and I am extremely happy. No date set yet but I will take what I can get. They are both 30 and this is a first for the both of them.
And no, in spite of Vampy's prompting, there will be no "Hello Kitty" theme at the wedding!!!

All you have to do is get within 200 miles of me on my days off(Mon-Fri) and I'll drive the 4 hours to see you.
In October Debi and I are working on a Shrimp fest about 100 miles from my house. I will try to remember pictures.
(I hope she said good things...)

I am getting used to this retirement thing, although I am busier now than when I was working! I am going to the Milwaukee County Zoo on Friday with my honey for Zoo-ala-carte. Restaurants in the area cook up their specialties for zoo goers. You can eat and drink and gaze at animals to your heart's content. I love watching the polar bear swimming in his pool. He plays with an empty beer keg...I am waiting for him to throw it at the crowd one of these days. LOL! I also love the big cats...could stare at them for hours. On Saturday, Chloe Neill is coming to my B&N so I'll pop over to meet her and get my books signed. In October, Carolyn Crane and Nicole Peeler are trying to set up a reading/signing at the same B&N...fun will ensue if the quest is successful. Jeez, Vic, you can stay at my house if you want to come here, too. Yes, Vampy and I have a ShrimpMeet for the Shrimpmates planned for mid October during my vacation...driving back through SE GA so we'll stop off to hug, take pics, and eat shrimp! I am glad your editor is pleased with TNG...I am looking forward to it. Thank you for the mention in Skamar's short...am happy to survive, but disappointed in the lack of cotton candy at the fair...the Tulpa really is evil...and cheap! We really missed you in TB chat.....Jaye Wells stopped by this past Sunday as well as Jeaniene and Jeannie Holmes. We do miss our evil author......

Thank you for the mention in Skamar's short...am happy to survive, but disappointed in the lack of cotton candy at the fair...the Tulpa really is evil...and cheap! Ha ha ha! See, my suggestion was to keel yo' ass off so I can have Vlad all to myself. She nixed that idea. You have this strange power over people, Debi. Once I saw it at RT, I understood. (Luv ya, girl.) Woo-to-tha-hoo, Vic! Soo excited that the book only needs minor tweaking. YOU ROCK!In case you haven't noticed, you're getting better with each book. You get sharper each time. It's all coming together, yes? I'm so happy for you. *biggest fattest hugs ever* I, uh, shopped 15 inches of hair off and I'm still not digging it. Maybe in a few years I will. My 12 year-old half-brother is currently in the ICU at U of M Children's Hospital for failing at a bike stunt and damaging his kidney pretty severely. My dad said it's actually cracked, which I think sounds crazy. If he doesn't heal, they're going to have to operate and take it out. Scary stuff! Boys! Life is stressful in other areas I don't care to talk about, but it's keeping me on my toes. I'm keeping it together best I can and planning on coming out stronger than ever. What else can I do? Be thankful for your loved ones, your health, your job, your food, shelter and your sanity. Everything you have is a gift and a blessing. Sorry to be preachy, but you never know when it might be gone and you may regret not appreciating what you had while it was there. Luv you guys!

Uggers! That stinks Ravie, but yeah, it's a boy thing (though by no means exclusively)...
Congrats on finishing Vicki, and even more about not needing any major rewrites! That's wonderful! And maybe it means the book will be out sooner? ;D Oh, and at least you've met some of the crew! Charlaine's the first of the authors I've heard of coming to New England...
Not much going on here...spent July editing the stuff I wrote last year...well, that and went to Penn and NY for a week on vaca...

I went to a Dark and Stormy Knights signing and was hoping you'd magically appear, but alas, I was stuck with Jim Butcher, lol. His sister, Julie, is made of awesome. Seriously. We went out for Mongolian afterward and I got to see her writing clubhouse. I'm a bit jealousy because my only builder is about 2.5 feet tall. Not quite big enough to build me a clubhouse yet. : )

Stuck with Jim Butcher? I'd love to meet him. He is the reason I am here today. The scifi(syfy now) version of the Desden Files opened the doorway to Kim, Vicki and all the rest.

Engaged! What a happy time - congratulations to you all! I dunno, though. You might be missing out big on the Hello Kitty cake. It'd be memorable! I *am* happy with it. I still have some tweaking to do, but it was nice to hear from someone else - and someone with such a great eye - that I do, indeed, have a story here. *happy sigh* So, I still have copyedits, and the page proof stage to go through, but that's just work. No biggie. Yay! August thread! And hooray that your editor loves TNG!! Great news. I would say that deserves a cupcake or two. So, are you happy with the way TNG came out? Holy crap, Deb! You are busy. And the shrimp sounds awesome. I love a good smoked shrimp (though I've only ever had it in Sweden. Nom-nom!) The Zoo ala Carte sounds great too. Food and animals - two great things that go great together ... with a hefty amount of barbed wire in between. LOL Yeah, I let you live. I am sweet that way. *koff* Hm, all those J authors. Maybe I have to change my name in order to stop by!

Ravie, I saw the pics of your hair and I love it! You just need to get used to it, I swear. And you know, I think I am getting better with each book. At least, as it concerns deadlines and initial drafts and plotting and such. Better at cutting the fat off before my editor sees it. I still over-write by 10-15K - I have to; I need to "see" it - but at least I'm cutting it before getting it to her. Oy! Your poor brother. I'll keep him in my thoughts/prayers. I'm so sorry to hear that. And I'm with you on being thankful. I have a couple stressful years under my belt and I couldn't agree more. So you're not preachy. It's a good reminder. Keeping you with the good thoughts too.
