I have to admit, I got Scent of Shadows free from Barnes and Noble for my nook. A close friend started reading her copy before I did. We are always comparing books. She read that one first, when she first started it she asked me if I've read it yet. I said no I hadn't had a chance. She said "it's kind of weird. I'm not sure what I think of it yet. She's on a date with a guy and something about his skeleton shows for a minute?" LOL... after that I wasn't sure what to think, but I started it next... and fell in love with it!! I coudln't wait to read the rest of them!! And now can't wait for the next one to come out.
Such a wonderful and unique series!!

I started reading them because I had gotten the first for free from barnes and noble as well! That's pretty cool! I loved the whole series! I found it very hard to put it down! I am readily awaiting the next.

This is something all publishers should look into, offering the first book of a series for free. Thanks to this in the past, I have been hooked on many authors I would have normally missed.
I have been using a Kindle for about 2 years now and I love it.
Oh, almost forgot welcome to the series and the forum.
1)Debim sent me. 2)Vlad is Raven's 3)...forget number 3

Good Vampy. Welcome guys! It doesn't matter how late you to come to the series, or how you find it, it's great to come across a great find, isn't it? Oh, I LOVE the freebies on NOOK! Do you know how to find all of them? Over 950,000 free books are waiting for you, if only you know how to look. I can tell you, if you don't already know how. (Don't forget to visit our e-reader thread to talk more about your Nook. It started out as Vampy's "I heart Kindle" thread, but we talk about Nook in there too.

I fear the end of the printed word.

I'm a new fan too because of my nook! I have already gone through most of the books and am just starting Cheat the Grave. I'm so enthralled by the series.
PS. I wouldn't worry too much about the end of the printed word, even with my e-reader I still love a good old printed book and I think many others feel the same. Can't beat the smell of a new book!

tnbsmommy, andbearcats, & Evanti -
Funny you guys mention the free e-book. I asked my publisher if we could do it last year and they weren't ready yet then. But they decided to do so with CHEAT and I was *chuffed.* It was a great opportunity, but I think an author really needs to have a backlist in order for it to be feasible on their side. Musta worked, cuz look! You're here! And my second book subsequently went into another printing. So that's cool too.
As for e-readers - I just got a kindle as a congratulatory gift for finishing THE NEON GRAVEYARD, and I have to say ... I friggin LOVE it! I had no idea I was going to love it so much. I'm so pro-book, pro-paper that I almost didn't want to like it, but man. Talk about a product that gives the consumer exactly what they want. I'm hooked.
And I love my free books too. ;-)
Welcome to the board!

Welcome to my world Vicki!!! Now you understand. Just because you have a Kindle. it doesn't mean you have to stop buying paper books. It just gives you more choices.

You won't be able to. There are lots of titles that just aren't available in e-book format. But it helps to go green and cut down on bookshelf clutter, right? I think I might cave and get a Nook. My bookshelf will thank me and all the benefits I keep spouting are starting to get to me.

Personally, I'm probably going to wait for the iPad to work out the kinks and become a little more reasonably priced...either that of work on a next gen phone...I like the ability to write as well as read...

I won't - I plan on doing both. But it was great when I got to the end of the HUNGER GAMES and could just dl the sequel in two minutes flat and keep reading. What a consumer based product! Welcome to my world Vicki!!! Now you understand. Just because you have a Kindle. it doesn't mean you have to stop buying paper books. It just gives you more choices.
