I got the impression it is out. I may be wrong. They used to say there was an app for the iPod touch too but I don't see it anymore.
Oops, I see the fine print now, "Mac version coming soon."

Here are a few screen shots of what Kindle PC looks like. Fists is a pic of some of the books I have... Next is a pic of the smallest font... Last is a pic of the largest font...as you can see there is a wide range. This is the size I like on my 'puter.

Oh, Vampy, you have AFRAID by my buddy, Jack Kilborn AKA J.A. Konrath. I loved that book...he nailed the people and town life of northern Wisconsin perfectly. It was a pretty good read considering I don't usually care for horror any more in my old age.

It was a freebie and I haven't read it yet. I seem to acquire books way faster than i can read them. That is just a partial list. I have over 200 books on my Kindle now.

That was very cool. I think we can see who the clear winner is. Who needs touch screen? It just puts finger prints on the thing you are trying to read, I find that annoying.

Well, it says partial, so that might mean stylus required...I wouldn't say there's a clear-cut winner though...the nook and kindle are very close...as for the browser (which the kindle does have) it's the reason that these devices have been banned from the tolls...when they were just readers they were permitted but the expanding capabilities has now put them out of the range of "harmless"...

Dude, we've already got a demo model nook at mine. (I plays with all the time.) Technology is amazing, but I LOVES my books. I just do. Less complicated, less shit to get fucked up. Although, if I'm going on vacay, a nook would really come in handy. I could stash several novels on there and it's hella tiny in comparison. Plus, new hardcover books and bestsellers are way more expensive than an e-book versions. There are pros and cons. One cool thing about the nook is, if you're in a B&N, you can browse e-books for free on their WiFi network. You can read parts of a book before you buy it, just like you could with a paper book. You can't do that with Amazon because they're not a store of bricks and walls, they're just an online store. Ya know? So I really like that feature. 'Cuz sometimes you wanna check out the first chapter to see if it's a dud before you commit to the purchase. The color touch screen is pretty awesome too. I guess what I'm getting at is, even if and when I get a nook, I'm still not giving up on paper books. FYI- the touch screen is a small, separate screen at the bottom. The e-ink screen where you read is NOT a touch screen. No fingerprints on the part where you read. The touch screen is backlit, like your computer screen and shuts off after a few seconds of inactivity. See?

DL - it says partial because the reading screen is eink, the navigation screen at the bottom is touch. Raven - you can read parts of books with the Kindle. Amazon will send you a sample of Kindle books at no charge and it is instant as long as your whispernet is turned on. I actually prefer that to the B&N because you don't have to be in a B&N to use the feature. Thank you for mentioning it! I added it to the chart

What's whispernet?
Thanks for the tip, Tiff. Good to know. Do you have to buy your ebooks for your Kindle online at Amazon.com, or can you buy them directly from you Kindle?

Whispernet is what amazon calls their wireless service. You can buy books online at amazon.com or you can buy them directly from your kindle. either works you can get samples the same way.

I get free samples all the time. If I don't like the sample I erase them. If I do like them, I buy the book and keep on reading. I like not having to leave my house and still have 24/7 access to an almost endless supply of books. I may feel differently about Kindles if I had a real bookstore close by but I don't. I still like it's other features. With the limited browser, I will always have access to things like weather, maps, cinema show times, Google, the wiki and even this forum. I find that very handy. Of course the biggest advantage a real book has is they do not require charging. Oh I almost forgot. I've been using the Kindle PC reader and I do like it. It's a great substitute for my Kindle if I want to read a bit before going to sleep. They just need to implement the ability to synch my computer and kindle so that they remember how far I read. They are working on that.
