I've read sci-fi stories that have taken these devices and turned them into cyber-device implanted into the body. It sorta feels like we're headed that way now. IO don't think I'd like that. Resistance is futile, and all that.

I believe the ads are just in the screen savers yes. I know lots of people who have that version and have no problems with it. Or you can just pay the extra $30 and get one without the ads.
I played with the Fire, I was impressed. Not as a tablet, but as a multimedia device absolutely. Dear author did a bunch of posts on the Nooks and Tablets lately.. or maybe it was just twitter posts. I'll have to look and see if she did a write up.

Kind of in relation to what Vampy said... There are 3 of us at work that are mainly just Nook people. I just had that huge-ass tumor removed at the end of September. Another girl has a ganglion cyst, which is actually what I was kind of hoping my tumor was because they're fairly common and easy to treat. The third is a dude who half-jokingly said that with all the time we spend on Nooks all day, he wondered if perhaps they weren't causing these hand tumors. The other girl's is NOT a tumor. Ganglion cysts are quite common. My tumor had no known cause. But if 2 of the 3 people working like 8 hours a day on these things have hand bumps, I get where he's going. The dude is new to it anyway. (Borders refugee.) I'm telling you, if he ends up with one, I'm going to make a stink.

I'm sure you all have nothing to worry about. I've had my Kindle longer than you all have had your Nooks and I never developed any cysts or tumors. Do extra fingers count?
