I just want to spread the joy of the Kindle. I think it's great that they finally let the rest of the world in...except the kiwis.

Hey! Barnes & Noble is finally in on the action. They have their own version on the Kindle. It's called the nook. Go see. nookIt's a little cheaper than the Kindle and has a color touch screen. Cool thing about it is that you can browse titles for free when you're in a Barnes & Noble store, just as if you were looking at books in the store. I just wanted to show you guys.

I saw that and I like it...it has a replaceable battery which the Kindle doesn't have. I am seriously thinking of a purchase, even though the e-books are a little more expensive at B&N. You can also add a larger memory card to hold up to 3500 more books. I plan to check it out in person at the local B&N store before I do buy it.

Just be sure you compare it very closely with the Kindles. I have heard some bad things about it but the reviewers were kindle biased. They cost the same as a standard kindle it seems and they do have one feature I really like more than anything..you can loan a book to a friend for up to 14 days. Kindles can't do that..yet. If BnN is going to do that, I imagine Amazon will incorporate it too. It's a very cool idea. I have the original kindle with a SD card slot that has a 16GB card in it and a replaceable batter. The kindle2s and DX models don't have these. I also checked some of the book prices and it is comparable to Amazon. All new books are $9.99 with some exceptions. It looks lie Amazon has some real competition coming soon. I am very excited about this because competition is a good thing for everyone...usually. This page has a comparission chart with the Kindle 2. There are a couple of minor errors but over all it's pretty accurate. www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/compare/

Yes, I did like the loan feature, too. But I think that won't come into play unless one of my friends buys one also. ;-)

That is true but I wish Kindle had it. Patch and I could loan books to each other. You could also join a forum for the Nook and make new on line friends to trade with. It's a really neat innovation that I hope Amazon steals.

WEll the lend a book feature is interesting, it is depending upon publishers allowing the books to be lent and you can only lend the books once and only for 14 days. then you can never lend that book again. B&N is being sneaky about some of their claims .... I will stick to my kindle 1 - it has the SD card slot, tho I honestly rarely use it anymore. It is nice to have and I always thought it was a bad idea to take it off the Kindle 2. B&N doesnt have nearly as many titles as amazon.com has yet (they claim a million or something but they are including public domain titles you can get all over the web for the kindle too), BUT I am excited for the competition it will give amazon. Maybe we will stop seeing kindle prices that are higher than other new releases now... Someone did a comparison recently of book availability and pricing: blog.gideonaddington.com/2009/07/the-land-of-ebooks/oh and my blog post about the nook the other day, shameless blog whoring: www.kindlevixen.com/archives/316

I noticed the samething when iI read their comparision chart. I also notice the Kindle batter went longer without a recharge. I imagine that color selector thing ears up a bit more battery life.

The kindle is also slightly larger (better for reading) and lighter than the nook...at least they're being a little honest that there are some things better about the kindle...and also the AT&T 3G network is nice, but it's a heck of a lot more limited availability than the other ones...

You can change the size of your font on the nook, can you do that on the Kindle? It only makes sense. And yeah, I agree taht competition is good. It makes companies strive to improve, cut prices and want to steal customers away, so they try to impress the consumer. MONOPOLIES = BAD.
I agree that honesty in comparison is good, DL. If they list all pros and cons, I think they gain customer loyalty that way. Dude, the ability to loan an e-book to a friend ROCKS.

Raven, yes you can adjust text size on both of them... I think there are 6 different sizes on each.

the size of the fonts on the kindle go from about the size of small text that says Joined Mar2009 to just a tad bigger than Tiffany's name/sig. We wont be able to make up our minds about the new Nook until Oprah tells us what to think.

I stopped into B&N today. They hope to be getting the NOOK into the stores next week so people can actually play with them. I plan to check it out for sure.
