Very nice Raven! The only problem I've heard about Dells is customer support after you've bought it...

I think you got a kick ass system for what you want to do. The only thing you'd need to change if you wanted to become a gamer is the video card. It's still a good card for what you'll be doing. I think you and your new puter will be happy for years to come.

Congrats Raven! Did you decide on your video editing software yet? I'm curious myself. I've only ever used iMovie and really haven't needed to do more than put clips together with transitions and Premiere and Final Cut just seem to be overkill for what I want to do. I'm not familiar with what software (Windows Movie Maker?) comes preloaded on Dell's lately, it's been 5 years since we retired ours and I finally got to get my own Mac. I've heard of an open source video editor called Avidemux. I haven't used it yet but if you wanted to play around with something, it's free to download. Also, for image editing there is GIMP which is also open source. I've used Photoshop for 15 years so I've always had a copy but I looked at GIMP but didn't feel comfortable because I knew Photoshop and didn't want to learn a different editor. I'm lazy. But if you're short of the funds it would be worth checking out. Let me know how things go! -m

We saw some awesome, teeny, tiny Acer notebook computers at RT. They looked easy to travel with...very lightweight....has anyone heard anything bad about them?

We sell them at my store. They're awesome for what they are. Strictly internet and email based machine. They usually don't have a CD/DVD drive and limited hard drive space. If you're wanting a second machine strictly for travel/internet you might like them.

That is exactly what I was thinking of using it for. Thanks, T!

My free month of McAPhee is up and I loaded up Avast.
I'M TEARING MY HAIR OUT AGAIN. This new computer has been giving me so many fucking headaches, OMG.
License Key is not entered. So I register and GET the fucking License Key e-mailed to me. I copy and paste it, just like they say. It says "License Key is not valid." WTF? I went to their troubleshooting site and they said maybe your computer's date it set wrong and the Key is tricked into expiring, since they're only good for one year. I checked that. Nope. I tried saying that I lost my License Key, but they just e-mailed me the same invalid one. So now I'm without virus protection.
WTFUUUUUUUUUUCK?
T? Any help? I vant to keel.

Hmmm...I've never had that happen. My first thought would be that if you are copying and pasting, make sure you aren't accidentally including a space somewhere. I did find a forum with suggestions for that problem hereHope that helps!

Thanks, T. But, no. That didn't help at all.
I made sure I wasn't accidentally including a space, yeah.

I can't believe I haven't read this thread (duh!) If you're having trouble with AVAST, AVG has a free virus protection download. I'm not computer smart enough to know if it's a good program, but it seems to work for me. Also, with the Dell tech support~I lucked out when I had to call with the laptop (I can't even remember what the issue was now)~I got an American! He had to do a remote tech support thingy where they take over your pc (that was weird), but I got it fixed. Of course, I forgot to ask about the whole wireless printer thing.
