Found myself stewing about conduits today as I was driving to work. ;D Are conduits primarily offensive weapons, or can they be defensive?
Most of them seem to be fairly long-range so far: blow-gun, Jo's conduit, Hunter's whip, etc. Is there any philosophy behind that, or is it just how it turned out? I suppose the trident is awfully short-range...
I was thinking how cool it would be to fight with two small shields--one on each forearm, and the edges would be razor sharp to use on the offense. Not that I'm looking for a fight or anything!

We see all sorts of short ranged conduits, from Vanessa's Steel Fans, Riddick's Dentist Hook and Micha's Surgical Steel on the side of Light to Regan's Ice pick, Dawn's Machette, and Ajax's serrated pokers on Shadow side...those are just a sample from both sides, not the full list...Actually, close combat weapons vastly outnumber the ranged, since it's easier to say that the only ones with range are Kimber, Zoe/Jo and Felix...Tekla/Stryker and Hunter have extended reach, but not true range since they're both connected to the other end...
I don't see a reason that those wouldn't be allowed as conduits...after all, the conduit is personal, so if that's your style it would make perfect sense!

Hmm, good point, DL. You guys have me wondering on every little fine point of the books now--Ms. Vicki is especially crafty, and I now suspect each detail of having some greater significance! ;-)

Lol...completely understandable there, and there is a large significance in conduits as they generally show quite a bit of the personality of their wielders, not to mention the obvious about the fighting styles involved...

OOO that was a good question thanks... If I ever do get to working on the Zodiac RP that I wanna make for my friends I'll have to keep DL's answer in mind.

I know. Or a YA story about Ashlyn. I think about that a lot. There's just so much to cover!
