I'm pretty sure I mentioned this elsewhere, but since starting the "Do Something" section, I thought it would be cool to have its own thread. When my sister lived in Africa for a year, volunteer teaching in Namibia, she was touched by the sheer THIRST for learning that the students had. The children came into school voluntarily from the summer break to meet the new teachers and help orientate them to their new surroundings. They crave knowledge like children we just don't encounter. Unfortunately, they aren't given the opportunities that our children are given, and many brilliant young minds are hindered by their bleak situations. When my sister's year of volunteering was up, she and her boyfriend set up a non-profit scholarship fund to help get these kids to further their educations. (That's my sister's blog, but the link to the scholarship is on there. Her blog is interesting and a real eye-opener. It's only about her Africa experience, not about her everyday life. Pretty humbling.)
