First, i give you Borderlands for the PC, XBox and PS-3. It is an ultra violent gore fest of a thrill ride. It combines a first person shooter with a role playing game. The player's characters actually level up and get new skills as they progress through the game.
It is kinda like if Fallout had mated with Diablo.
Next is Bioware's Dragon Age:Origins. This is a beautiful full fledged medieval style single player Role Playing game. It can also be very violent and gory. It looks like it will be incredible and I can't wait until it's release Nov 3.

I have watched hours of video and read every hands on report i can find about it. Everything so far indicates that it will be one of the best games out for this year and maybe a few more. It will come with it's own tool set. The very same tools the designers used to make it so there will be a very active modding community almost right away. They also plan to have a lot of down loadable content for us. Some for free some for a small price.
If you like this type of game, go ahead and pre-order it now. It will come with an extra nonplayer character, Shale, a stone gollum that can be used in your parth.

I downloaded a Dragon Age character generator for free so have been playing around with that - not terribly complicated but you can spend a lot of time (or at least I can) tweaking eyebrows and stuff.

I have been playing almost non stop since I got it. I've played through 3 complete origin stories and have played one character up to level 9 so far. I love the origin stories. They are a lot of fun and a really great way to get into the game. The guy isn't kidding when he says there is a lot to do. Nothing is just handed to your character. for example my guy can specialize but be fore he can do it, he has to get the specialization unlocked by reading the proper book. I can't find the one I want. Saving often is also a good idea. Until I got my party strategy right, I spent a lot of time dead.

I went and got it last night. Haven't even gotten through one origin story yet. Thought there was a lot of talking until I realized that this was just a preface. Which origin story do you like best so far? I am playing human noble - I gots a dog named Kirby!

I've done the city elf as a female. Loads of fun but sad. My favorite line was when the betrothed got killed. I said "Well I didn't want to get married anyway."
Then I a male elf mage. I think this one took me the longest. I liked some of the twists and turns it took.
Last night, much too late, I started a male noble Dwarven rogue. It's good too but involves a lot of Dwarven politics and I am no fan of politics real or fantasy.
I mainly play my Elven mage. I want to make him an Arcane Warrior. All I can find so far are books for Spirit Healer.
Enjoy the game. It is one of the best i have ever played. It's easy to get lost in there. I am going to ignore the main story for a while and just do side quests. In the process, I'll play with the various support party members. I have the dog, Morrigan, Shale, Leliana , Shen Morrigan and Alistair so far.
The game is full of little pop culture Easter Eggs too. I wont say what I have seen so far but keep an eye out and read every thing you can as you go along.
Have fun!

Well, the first night I played, I was lurching around like a drunk, running into walls and trying to get my bearings. Last night, I miraculously could maneuver much better. Made it to camp. Now I am getting a better feel for the game and liking it. I always want to be a mage but always end up doing better hacking up monsters with swords, etc. No patience for magic I guess. So we shall see how I do.

I just became an arcane warrior. I like it. I am wearing full armor and using a sword as well as casting spells. The only problem is i burn through mana a lot faster because some of it is used to enable me to do the warrior skills. tonight I was in a place that had lots of drakes. Ir was fun fighting them. I was short a member because someone had a hissy fit and challenged my leadership skill. After i kicked his butt, he asked to stay but i said no way GTF outta here bud. I should of taken my dog with me. he loves me. I named him Bigboy.

I am having fun too! I love Morrigan!! The game does a really good job of character interaction. I am doing side quests and looking around. Do you suppose work would understand if I stayed home for a bit to play?? Ha! It also looks like replaying as a different type of character has a lot to offer. More bang for your buck!
Did you know that if you "talk" to your dog, he will go off and find things occassionally? He brought back a nice magic staff yesterday. Good Kirby!

The best thing Bigboy found so far was a mushroom. Yours must be better trained. Talk to your dog in camp and you will see several funny little interludes involving Allistair or Morrigan. That dog is so big, i think Dwarven characters should be allowed to use them as a mount. My group is heading to Ostaghar(sp) to see the dwarvs today. social.bioware.com/managescreenshots.php?persona_id=212553888&game=dragonage1_pc

I hope you are happy, Vampy. Dragon Age has taken over my life! I am staying up way too late and then going into work tired. This has to stop. Just as soon as I finish one more quest. Or maybe two...
I love the Fade. Loved the Broken Circle quest (which is the only major one I have finished so far). Am in the middle of finding the Ashes for the Arl right now.

The Fade part is my favorite too. It's full of stat bonuses that are permanent. I have started a character for every back story at least once, and finished it 3 times now. I like being an Arcane Warrior best so far,
I found a tutorial on how to make items with the editor. I have managed to make 2 things so far; a sword and a staff. Both are awesome and maxed out.

I really liked shapeshifting in the Fade. Way cool. I haven't even finished once yet but I am almost done with the dwarf quest and have finished the mages, the arl and the elves. I was really floored when I realized why I loved Morrigan's voice so much - she is played by Claudia Black from Farscape and SG1. And her mother is played by Kate Mulgrew of Captain Janeway fame. This game is too much fun!!!
