Typically, when books from my authors are coming out in paperback, most bookstores put them out at least the weekend before, so I'm usually hitting every bookstore within 50 miles till I find it. But I had seen somewhere recently that it may have negative impact on the numbers or something like that. Does it have a negative impact, and would you prefer for readers to wait until the official release date? I don't want to do anything bad, I want you to be really successful so you'll keep writing ;D!!! Even though I will be strung out like a crack addict knowing I can get my hands on the book I will be able to control myself (barely) if it helps to wait. Thank you!!!!

Even though I will be strung out like a crack addict knowing I can get my hands on the book I will be able to control myself (barely) if it helps to wait. Thank you!!!! That's exactly right, Crash. If you buy a book before its official street date, the sale doesn't contribute to the release week's numbers, and enough of those could keep a writer off Da Lists. I don't need to tell you how important those lists are, both in terms of being able to say that this author is a bestseller, and in terms of future monies, from promotion (publishers tend to get behind the more successful authors) to advances (which are what we live off of for years at a time) to readers saying, "Oh, I don't recognize the author, but it must be good if it hit that list' and giving a newbie a try. My official street date is May 27th for THE TOUCH OF TWILIGHT, and I'm lucky because the publisher has been good with the past two books about holding booksellers to that. It seems to me that the more anticipated the release, the more carefully the publishers watch to make sure that street date isn't being broken. (Thus my fruitless efforts to beg a copy of Diana Gabaldon's latest tome off of cold-hearted booksellers in all corners of the town each time she has a new release. ) But if you do happen to see it early it would be great if you could wait until the 27th, and that all-important first week, to pick it up. Thanks for asking -- that's really sweet!

No problem, I will wait to the release date... on the plus side there is both a Borders and a Barnes and Noble on the way home from work so I will definitely pick it up on the 5/27!!! Thanks Vicki!!!

Well, FWIW, The Taste of Night showed up early at Walmart when it first came out. (and it was in with all the generic romances? That one I don't comprehend)

I'll be honest, I think Wally World is where I spotted and picked up both novels... And I thoroughly cleaned out the d key...now works fine...typing one handed is the only complication now... I have a baby in the other...Vamp, get your mind out of the gutter!
