How do you mean ponyboy?
(moved to the Ask Vicki Section since Vicki's Sanctuary is more about her getting free reign to post her thoughts and whatnot)

I like how Showgirl mentioned in her post about Twitter that too many people that get paid for their ideas are giving away too much free stuff. It made me understand why she teases us but gives us very little. It's fun and it's good for business. If she gives away too much info, then no one will need to buy the next book. Nothing wrong with that. See Vicki-doodle I do pay attention.

I think it's more about people "borrowing" your ideas than about people not buying. Because honestly, even if I knew tidbits about a book, I'd still buy it.

Yeah I am the same ..Miki no matter how many things I know about a book I'll still buy it because though for you may know what has happened (eg. Main character (whom is a complete idiot) cheats on her love of her life with another guy cause her bro has died, she is drunk (but not really) and there has alway been some zing (arghhhhhhhhhh) ) it is however out of context. I always like to know how they reached that decision or how circumstances pushed them towards that end. But I also understand that some people are not like me and once they know they don't want to buy...
But Vamps I do think that people are chucking their idea's out into cyberspace have the chance to it being "borrowed" or I believe in protecting your intellectually property or privacy as it were....lol

Actually, what I was talking about was the preservation of ideas for personal mining. Frex, I can throw an idea I have out there: A man, rejected, takes revenge. And it's going to look different in each author's hands. Ideas like that aren't what's important. They can't be copyrighted, they're broad enough that anyone can take it, run with it, make it their own. But if I'm journaling a smaller thought (and I'll give one here with the caveat that I'm still mulling it over/mining it) then it's still mine to play with. Frex, right now I'm looking at: When set free, you're also set adrift. Okay, this is a powerful thought, something I can cut across again and again, finding pros and cons on each side, weighing them, and eventually coming down on one side or another. But if I throw the thought out on Twitter, and get back "Oh, so true" or "Yeah, life is just like that" then boom! I have the instant feedback/gratification of an audience, and the energy behind the though dissipates. At least for me, because I don't write to be rich or famous (good thing, too!) but in order to _communicate_. To say, through fiction, this is how life is, or can be, and for the specifics of the story to reflect these sort of universal truths. So why on earth would I do that?
So, in short (or is it too late for that {wry g}), that's why it took me so long to start w/Twitter. I'll post bits about what's going on with me and the business of work, but I can't give up the ideas, and I need to make sure I control that. I'm not worried about someone stealing intellectual property. I'm worried about me not guarding my thoughts vigilantly enough. That's the mindstuff of fiction.
