All they had to do was overcome that toxic touch of hers.

I love DA, but with both shows I never got a chance to see them first run...as I said, they were trying to go up against shows that already were established powerhouses in the Sci-fi community...As good a show as Dark Angel was, I just wasn't going to loose track of Buffy and Angel to try out a new show...Same with Firefly and Farscape...
UPN did the same thing when they put out Enterprise (against Smallville)...granted that one also had the purists hating it anyway, so they needed the boost from the non-fanatic sci-fi viewers...

So reading Jeaniene's book has gotten me thinking (yes, that is a dangerous thing, and no it isn't off topic for this thread )... Spike or Angel/Angelus? (and is a soul relevant to your answer?) And on a broader spectrum, who's your favorite Joss character from each Gender? I'll start us off...Spike! Without a soul he's the best because he can do pretty much what he wants with attitude, which includes helping out if he feels like it...But Even with a soul he doesn't get nearly as whiney as Angel, or even Angelus... My favorite Buffy episode is when Spike comes back because Dru has left him for a demon...Even when he's moping he's still a blast...And in the end he basically kicks his own ass for being all dour and wimpy... Male Character: A tough question because Joss' male charries tend to be more 2 dimensional than even his most basic female charries...it's great to see strong and diverse female charries, but the effect is almost weakened against males who tend to be a bit more stereotyped...That being said, my favorite is Oz hands down...Intelligent, introspective, snarky and can kick butt every full moon! Female Character: Jayne (kidding!)...seriously? probably Kaylee...she's got the warm, innocent nature, without feeling downright naive like River does...

wow this one is hard... but I think i'd have to go with Mal as my favorite male Char, and River as Female. they are both just so great and there's much more to both of them than meets the eye.

Male - Mal, without a doubt.
Female - Buffy, Zoe, Kaylee, Willow, River. So many to choose.

I like River, especially in episodes like "Objects in Space" She shows what she can really do when she is functioning more normally.
Wash was one of my favorite males. He was sort of the voice of reason on the ship. When ever everyone was shouting about guns and killing, he'd opt for more peaceful resolutions if it was a option. He was always at his best when under extreme pressure flying Serenity. His underlying resentment of Mal's relationship with Zoe lead to some great situations. I miss him the most.

I think Objects in Space is my favorite episode! And I love Wash, too. Plus the whole Wash and Zoe coupledom. Loved the strong woman with a sensitive man combo. Sigh.

Favorites?
Spike. More gleeful, less inclined to mope, and when he does, he gets over it.
Male? Book, but mostly because we found out so very little about him.
Female? Anya. I loved her character's development over the run of the series.
(Least favorite, either sex? Andrew, hands down. A little Andrew goes a long way with me.)

Anya and her fear of bunnies was so funny. It broke my heart when she died. Xander was such an idiot.

Xander is the perfect example of the 2 dimensional male characters...though with him it's generally more 1 dimensional...

I never understood how Xander could fight vampires at night and get his butt kicked by bullies in the day time.

Are you kidding? He was a mess any time he tried to go out against the vamps...That's why Buffy and Willow tended to use him as bait to lure the vamps out...
"Here you go! Nice juicy clutz for you to snack on!"
