Hey Vick, I figured I'd put in a question and for the first time in my life be the first person to post in a board. Let me just wallow in it a while,... ... ... .. ... ... ... ... ... ... aaaahhhh. I feel so special. So here's my easy question. I know you've mentioned this info before, but I can't remember it. What is your word or page goal these days with a looming deadline? Stacey

Stacey,
{snort} Dork.
My writing goals vary depending on what I'm doing, but as I'm working on a first draft right now - and my main goals are to get the bones of the story down, and outrun my constant fear that I Just Can't Do This Again - my daily goal is 2K.
In the second draft it'll turn to a page goal, and there are usually two more draft that no one else sees. Then my crit partners get ahold of it, there's another (mostly nit-picky) draft, then my editor tears into it, resulting in another BIG draft. And on it goes.

I just saw Nim's Island today. Jodi Foster's character was an author. They made her out to be agoraphobic with some OCD tossed in. How do you feel about movies that portray authors like this? Other than the way they portrayed the author character, the movie was very good.

Other than the way they portrayed the author character, the movie was very good. Some authors are like that, I suppose. Mind, there might be something a bit off about someone who foregoes the company of friends and family for the company of the people in their mind, but there are all sorts of normal (and crazy). I go through periods of panic, but nothing like that. I can anticipate them, and I know what to do with them now. My writing partner calls them a part of my "process."

One thing i did like about Jodi Foster's character is she was always talking to her main character. He was very real to her. I have always thought this may be true of most authors.
If I were an artist, I'd draw a picture of you sitting at your desk with your characters all around you hammering out details for a story. Sadly my talent is imagination not drawing. or writing.

Hey V, (okay that might be my favorite nick name because it's easy to type) Thanks so much for the input. I may give it a go for Ms. Kilburn and see if i can't wake her up. stacey

I want to see her on paper! Oh, and as a side note: I was completely derailed today from my word count by the realization that I need to replot the entire third act of my book. These Things Happen. As long as there's forward motion, right? (At least that's what I'm telling myself.)
