OK VP...here's an uber nerdy question for you. I'm having a 'basement' moment. Regarding the troop history/creation it's been established that a city has to be big enough to support 2 troops. If it isn't big enough then it's just 'watched/fought' over by rogues, yes? So how big is 'big' enough. A million people? then the troop isn't that old. one hundred thousand? I'm just thinking that Vegas isn't that old in general so the troop cant be more than maybe 3 generations deep? So maybe the original manuals aren't sooo old and are closer than we think. Also, would the existing troop have been created from rogues originally here when the town was too small to support a full troop? If you'd like to tell me to just go with and not think so much, I'd get it. Once again, thanks for all the fun reading that brings this up in the first place. cheers stacey

I was wondering about that too.. About the Rogues. What if a rogue crosses sides?

hmmm, you mean light to shadow? Is that possible? I didn't think you could do that. Another good question

Damn! *forgets what book it was mentioned in* In one of the books it says it is ultimently up to the person. Remember Ajax's mom wanted to switch sides and he killed her. Greta a perfect example. Good at first that got her into the sanctuary then turned bad where she couldn't leave without burning up.

I was under the impression, when they talk about the "original manual" they aren't talking about Vegas' manual, but the first one in the world...keep in mind that each city has its own set of troops (or rogues) so each city has not only a shadow/light troop playing around, but also an artist putting out the manuals for that city...hense which was the first city to have them, and you discover the original manual...

DL is right. The original manual details the origins of Light and Shadow and far outdates Las Vegas. As for troops, they're built via an influx of rogue agents, and when there's enough of a mortal population to manipulate, and enough agents to fill both sides of the Zodiac - 12 each - then troops are formed. Of course, you have to factor in all of the normal behaviors and group dynamics, including (and perhaps especially) competition and jockeying for position. Plus, if there are two agents of the same sign, they're going to have to duke it out for that star sign. All of that is initial, and I have yet to detail it to then Nth degree. Warren's troop is, indeed, established, and the matriarchal lineage is now easy to follow (and impossible to argue) because it's recorded in the manuals. But Vegas? It's not that old...though nothing in the New World is. Clear as mud?

Thanks VP. Clears that up for me. Still have the nerdy question of how big is big enough for a troop? You think it depends on the actions of the populous ie perhaps a city populated by a lot of bad guys might warrant troops sooner? Just speculating.

On the other hand, if a city was too peaceful wouldn't that draw out the shadows sooner? Good question!
