So there's the Kindle thread and all, so I thought I'd start one for those of us with a new Uber-Special phone. Deb, that'd be you! Oh yea, and anyone else that has made the smart choice. Android has soooo many free apps out there, so I'd like to hear which ones folks have tried, liked, disliked, etc. So far, here's the cool (but usually pointless) ones I've been playing with: Both the Kindle and Nook apps. My personal preference is the Nook one. Google Sky Map - Hold your phone over your head and see the constellations above you on your screen. The Schwarz - Kinda like the lightsaber app, but with Spaceballs music. Pandora - Got my Zodiac channel on! Flixster Movies - find local showtimes and see Rotten Tomatoes rankings at the same time. Solitaire - my big timesuck of choice on every phone I've ever owned. Advanced Task Killer - Easily shut down all those apps running in the background. Must have! Helps speed up your phone and save battery life. I've heard rumors they may develop an app for Proboards, which would be most awesome.

I have a MotoX myself...purely keyboard based...I can't stand touchscreens...I have to deal with them all the time at work and don't trust them for something that sits in my pocket...it's bad enough I have to watch out when I bump it too hard, but just to brush against it?

Mine is touch screen, but has a lock mode that's easy to lock and unlock. I've actually pressed more buttons accidentally with my old phone that I have with this one.

Yup, phone locks...no pocket dialing on mine. I do wish the skin would come in for it though...I don't want to scratch it. Need to check the store again this week.

I've got my Sony Ericsson Xperia. I'm not like madly in love with it or anything (I'd actually prefer to through it out the window, but I'm not sure the insurance guys would buy that one), but it is nice. The major drawback on this one is that it has the touch screen which I am loathe. Also, the "smart" part of the phone apparently does NOT apply to dictionary abilities on this thing. It will change something I type into the stupidest thing, but when I screw up typing something, it won't fix it. *whimpers* I miss my keyboard. Anyway, I don't do a lot with the apps. Mostly just texting, internet, and music. I want to see about maybe the Xperia Play that came out, but it's only for Verizon, and I'm in the middle of a motherfucking contract with ATT. It's basically the same thing, but it's got a slider and instead of a keyboard, it has a game controller. I'd have to see what kind of games you get and such, but that probably won't be happening, as I'm sure they'll have something new out by the time I'm actually able to switch.
As for apps, don't really do a lot with those. color note for random notes. pandora for the music that isn't already on the phone. flashlight app of course - makes a great night light for reading when I should be reading (why YES I AM five years old). though, I will have to check out this proboards app. it is free, yes?

Not free, but worth the $2.99, IMO.

Isn't that the one that has playstation gaming controls built in to it? If it is, my computer tech loves his. CNet gave it a good review as well.

Since Verizon is one of the bigger Droid carriers thought people might be interested in this news... Verizon to scrap its unlimited data plan in JulyVerizon Wireless will stop offering its customers the option of an unlimited data plan in July, moving over to tiered data plans. But just what the new Verizon data plans for smartphones, tablets and other Web-data consuming gadgets will look like isn't yet being detailed by the nation's largest mobile carrier. "As we have stated previously, Verizon Wireless is making some minor changes to data plans including those for new smartphone customers," said Ken Muche, a Verizon spokesman. "We will move to a more usage-based model in July. More details to come." More at link . . .
