Sorry if this needs to move. I couldn't find the proper link for the first book. I must have lost my mind or something. Here's my question to everyone and Vicki.
SPOILR SPOILER SPOILER
I recently started again at book one and a fundamental questions occurred to me.
If Joanna is so important in the beginning to Warren and she is being followed closely enough to be able to quote her own words back to her, then why leave her completely hanging at Olivia's? Why wouldn't Warren already know that Butch had been there and not left by the door? Did they suddenly stop following her? I'd find that hard to believe. And if they were watching/following her why wouldn't Warren be on the case the second Olivia's body flew out the building?
I look forward to all the comments. I may be missing something completely obvious. Feel free to set me straight.

Because he's Warren? He wouldn't really care if a mortal died...she's only human after all More seriously, I don't think he was following her all that heavily...I don't know what he quoted back at her, but it never seemed to me like he was that intent on following her...more like he was following Butch (or was it Ajax?)...

Joanna should have shoved his ass off the ledge when she had the chance then!

I had some questions about that scene myself. They were more along the lines of Olivia. I hope they wont get me in trouble Try and follow, Since both Olivia and Joanna are archers shouldn't Olivia also be in line to be an Archer? What if it was originally supposed to be Olivia the next one to take over Zoe's place in the zodiac? It is passed down through the females. (just like Kimber and her sister both were in line for their sign) I also picked up the fact that her screen name as a hacker was "The Archer". Was it just coincidence? Now I know Olivia was younger than Joana but shouldn't she have been kind of resilient to the fall and if she was then maybe she might still be alive but look different? Last but not least. Did Olivia know about Zoe?

ALSO SPOILER HEAVY....
But, to answer forgotten- Joanna would've been more powerful being born of Shadow and Light, thus being Kairos. He wouldn't have wanted Olivia unless as a last resort. Jo was the ultimate prize.
Warren always has been a calculating bastard. Perhaps he needed to sacrifice Olivia, at least in his mind, to obtain Joanna. Maybe, the way he saw it, in the big picture, Olivia needed to be gone, out of the picture. Either so she wouldn't be a distraction or to use her identity to disguise Joanna. No matter what, we now know that Warren's got a hidden agenda with everything he does. Shit, he could've been trying to hurt Zoe, or trying to bring her out with the death of Olivia.
Has he ever truly had Jo's back?
I hope that helps, Stacey.

These are all fab theories, but it does seem clear that I DI NOT miss something and that an explanation was never really given. Again, since it's been a long while, perhaps I'm more objective on book one now-not so caught up. All great theories, but from a story point of view I'm left perplexed. I guess I was hoping I missed some key paragraph where someone says...."We had to let it go that way, Joanna. All things have to unfold naturally," or some other printed answer. Now I have to make one up. LOL I may just go with 'because Warren is an ass" and leave it at that. But if anyone has another insight, please let me know.

^Dude, I know. I just downloaded it and reread it. I totally prefer reading on my Nook now. Bad, bad Ravie! I finished it and went for Touch and Taste, too. Really bad Ravie. But you know what? I see so much more now, having read the whole series! HOLIDAYS ARE HELL is on sale right now, too. Did you guys know what Carlos was in THE HARVEST short story? I read that one first, and it was awesome to read it chronologically in order, as events occurred.
