The Zodiac FAQ - Please Read Before Posting!
This is a list of commonly asked questions regarding Vicki and the Zodiac series. The questions and answers were gathered from Vicki's previous responses to these questions both here and on her website. Odds are you'll find the answers to your burning questions here. If not, feel free to ask! But please, please, read this before asking.
Where do you get your ideas?
Everywhere. At every turn. More ideas pop out at me in an hour than I could ever use in a lifetime. It's just a shame I write so slowly.
When is the next book coming out?
Each main book in the Zodiac series comes out in the summer, usually June or July. THE NEON GRAVEYARD's release date is May 31, 2011. It is available for pre-order at Amazon and other booksellers NOW!
Who are your favorite authors/greatest influences?
While there are loads of great authors out there, my top three – the ones who do it for me every time, and whom I consider flawlessly pure storytellers – are:
1) Dennis Lehane
2) Diana Gabaldon
3) J.D.Robb/Nora Roberts
Any advice for beginners?
For true beginners I'm going to shamelessly steal Diana Gabaldon's advice, because I think there's no better:
1) Read a lot.
2) Write a lot.
3) Don't stop.
This is the secret. This is what I do. Every day.
Since there are 12 signs in the Zodiac, are there 12 books planned for this series through to completion?**
VP: I’ve said from the first book that the series is open-ended, but I’ve also admitted to driving Joanna hard and fast on her journey through the Zodiac underworld. I’ve been playing it by ear for the last couple of books, knowing she was getting fatigued and wondering when she’d get a breather (if not a happy ending), and now that the sixth book is well into production I can finally say: NEON GRAVEYARD, The Sixth Sign of the Zodiac is the last book in the series.
You know when you sit down over drinks with a friend you haven’t seen in forever, and there are a dozen things to talk about at once? And you know how after a few hours you’ve exhausted them all and you feel connected to this person and you’re happy to part ways until you can meet up with new experiences to share? That’s where I am with Joanna. She’s done talking to me for now. She very simply has nothing left to say after the events in NEON GRAVEYARD, and neither do I.
