As mentioned in another thread I love watching Ghost Hunters. I still can't decide if I believe or not. I think I would have to have a first hand experience before I would say without a doubt I believe. I may get the chance at some point. A new paranormal group just started in my town and I've been invited to join and investigate with them. The founder of the group happened to be in my RadioShack one day and said she was looking for a handheld thermometer and a digital recorder. I replied, "Ghosthunting, are we?" She laughed and said she wondered if anyone would make the connection.
So how about you? Do you believe and if so what convinced you?

I am inclined to believe there is something there but not sure what. Why do I believe?
My sister had an experience that was experienced by both of my brothers and others. It wasn't pleasant for them and after a while, my sister finally managed to get rid of it.
The big question is what are ghosts? Are they really lingering spirits of some long dead person or something else. Some people think they are.
Others think they are more like a paranormal video recording. They just play out the same scene over and over.
Some think that ghosts are actually fallen angles/daemons that are pretending to be dead loved ones in an effort to have some influence in the living world. Because of my sister's experience, I tend to favor this one.
There are about as many theories about what's going on as there are people. I don't think we will know for sure until we're dead.

From what I've read, it could be all of the above. I've seen different classifications like, residual haunt, intelligent haunt, inhuman haunt, etc.

I believe that it's possible, but at the same time there's a large number of cases which are completely explainable through other means...And yeah, Ghost Hunters tends to break it down into categories, which is why you seldom hear them admit that a place is haunted...
OMG! Tonight's episode was filmed only about an hour away from me...gotta remember to watch!

since I am at work with nothing to do, I'll tell my sister's story as best as I can remember it. I wasn't there when most of this happened.
The first time she said anything to us about it was before I left home to go in the Navy. She had several rabbits in a hutch in the back yard. We lived in Alabama then,
Every evening close to sundown, she would go out to feed her rabbits. She'd fill a can with pellets and another with water and head out to them. The hutch was under a big shade tree so they wouldn't get too hot during the day.
One day as she was heading out there she says she saw a hooded figure standing by the hutch. It was blue. It just sort of floated there and pointed at her. It scared the crap out of her and he poor rabbits got no food or water that night.
This happened several more times before I left. None of us ever saw it and we chalked it up to her over active imagination.
Skip a head a few years. If she saw anything else she pretty much kept it to her self since she was the only one seeing it. She moved to Kentucky.
Now a single Mom of 2 girls, she had a nice apartment in a little town. It turns out her hooded buddy from Alabama followed her there.
He liked to show up in closets and out of the way places and scare her. She says there were other things done as well. The kids toys would come rolling down the stairs when no one was up there.
Our brother who was very skeptical came to check it out. He said he found a cold spot and something tried to push his wife down the stairs.
Closet doors, especially the one in the girl's;s room would not stay closed. They were scared to sleep alone so they ended up sleeping with my sister most of the time.
As my sister tells it. One night they were all in bed and scared. This blue ball of light was zipping about the room and she got tired of being scared. She got mad. She was fed up with this thing terrorizing her and her girls.
She said she picked up a Bible and told the entity it was not welcome in her house. She said that in the name of the Holy Spirit and Jesus she commanded it leave her house and never return.
Apparently it worked. The blue ball shot out of the room through a window and never returned. The window was shut but it didn't break.
There's a lot of detail and events I've left out but that's about the gist of it. Both of my brothers, my nieces and a (ex)sister in law experienced these events so I have to believe something paranormal happened.
The only paranormal thing I've ever done was a long time ago. I had some dreams that came to sort of like dejavue.(sp) I don't do that anymore.

I'm a believer. Having lived in the two haunted dorms back in college. Various mis-adventures on an old road and watershed. A logging road in mid-winter. Something coming to visit for a couple minutes two days before my wedding. Voices when the house we lived in out in the country was silent. A spooky tree (have to find my photos). And the presence of my late grandpa in my grandparents house. Just too much not to believe.
The dorm- (listed as GSA, B, C, D). I lived in 313 (third floor 13th room!) of GSD during my sophmore year of college many moons ago. Rumors of it being haunted always flew about. I was skeptical till the second term after my room mate was removed for poor grades.
I woke several nights in a row over a month period to my pillow dropping onto my face and a heavy pressure sitting on top of it. IF you have heard of "shadow people" I kept seeing those out of the corner of my eye while studying. Plus a feeling of dred permeated the room every time. I finally pulled out my bible, I'm not a religious person so for me to actually open the box with that in it was rarity.
The next time the pillow was over my face I struck out with the book. Something screamed and the oppressive feeling left. I was not bothered for the rest of my stay in that room. But just in case I asked a friend who was into shamanic ritual to cleanse the room.
(more later. Have to go take my daughter to Irish Dance class)

The problem I have with GH is that they put on spooky music right when you're trying to listen for the small sounds that they think they're hearing...

The problem I have with GH is that they put on spooky music right when you're trying to listen for the small sounds that they think they're hearing... That really annoys me too. They didn't use to do that in the 1st and maybe second seasons.

One of my favorite GH moments was when 2 of them were out side on a Forrest -path, They see these huge eyes glowing in the dark and get all scared,
It was a deer resting in the brush.

I liked the one where they were in that huge gothic style closed sanitarium. It looked like something out of the Haunting of Hill House. Then they caught a "shadow" moving from room to room. And the one in the old lighthouse where there were two points of light at the very top of the tower.
The second dorm--The quiet dorm I moved into during junior year. It was very old but somewhat comfortable. I had had friends living in the place and would often visit, especially on Saturday nights when the entire campus shut down from 7 to 8 to watch ST:NG. I had friends who lived in the basement, we referred to it as The Pit and I would also run my monthly crummy movie night on the lounge tv down there. (Think MST:3K including puppets and commentary.)
So eventually I moved in down there. My room was one of the bigger rooms and would have normally been occupied by an RA but since the majority of the people living in that section for that term were the age 21+ crowd the school relented and said we could take care of ourselves. This room was located in between the tv lounge and the boiler room. So it was warm in there.
Every night at 3:00am the temperature abruptly dropped. I took it in stride. Then the sound of a ball being bounced down the hallway would start. Hitting various walls and doors. I could hear other people opening their doors then shutting them and going back to sleep. I would roll over and do the same till I felt like someone was staring at me. I tried my hardest not to open my eyes. There was a blue light figure standing at the end of the bed. I attributed it at first to not enough sleep and being out too late. But then it appeared several times then disappeared over the course of weeks.
I finally decided to some research in the library. They had a huge section on the town history. I found out the dorm I was living in had been a hospital at the turn of the century. Guess where the morgue and laundry areas were located. . .

While I don't have a personal story of my own, I was told something recently that really make me think twice. My District Manager was at my store the other day and this same type of conversation came up. He told me about a house he recently moved into. On moving day his family came to help, including his little nephews. He was on his way down the stairs and his 6-year-old nephew was on his way up the stairs carrying a small box of stuff. Mark (my DM) stopped on the landing to wait for his nephew to get passed. As his nephew walked up the stairs toward him, he slipped and fell backwards. He swears his nephew's back was basically at a 45 degree angle to the stairs when he floated upward a couple of steps and then uprighted. His nephew then looked at him and said, "Wow, it's a good thing that Indian guy was here to help me!" Makes ya wonder.

Oh cool, "Indian Guy"!
This makes me think of something a lot of horror movies address. The fact that kids perceive the world differently than adults. Just because we don't see the monster in the closet, doesn't mean they cant.
