I was reading thru some other posts and I thought it would be cool to have a thread where we could talk about the Comic shop and it's importance in the series world.
I really like how it plays such a big part in getting information, and the fact that the kids who hang there have some pretty cool powers of their own. Even though it's supposed to be neutral, the scene where Jo meets Joaquin there was edgy. I mean, the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife. The anticipation was killing me. And when Jo went to visit Ben as herself one last time with the help of Jasmine? Priceless.

I really like the kids, but I wonder what else they're reading aside from the Zodiac...

It does make you wonder. They all seem to know so much more than they are telling. And it's funny how they anticpate things, isn't it?

Deffinately not your average kids...and how did they manage to seduce girls into hanging out at a comic shop anyway!? The first few times I had to drag my wife in there

LOL it was the same way with my husband. He doesn't like comics much. He doesn't read a lot either. But my kids love comics. They get that from me. I've always thought of comics as eye candy. Some of those artists are so talented. I wish I had a fraction of that talent. Bout all I'm good for are squiggles on notepads while I am on the phone.

What would happen if Zane died without passing on the gift? Yikes? If there are no stories to read and therefore believe....hmmmm

Methinks he's immortal and cannot die. So that problem won't occur.

Well, it could be like Buffy, the power passes on automatically on the death of the previous...not to mention that it seems like he's only doing the comics for Vegas, at which point there's a lot of people like him out there...

Didn't he say that he inherited the gift? I need to go re-read my books. Now I can't remember if that was said or a figment of my imagination.

Well, inherit can mean quite a bit...using the Buffy analogy it can be said she inherited her powers too, just as Faith did when Buffy briefly died (the first time mind you )...

lol its not hard to get girls in the comic shop, its actually the local hangout on my side of town for people who play RPGs and read comics and stuff, as well, he sells movies and collectables in there too, so usually get the girls in there looking at DVD's unless you get lucky and get the star wars chicks in there hehe, but it could be like buffy, pretty good idea actually

Assuming Vicki used her local comic book stores as a model for Master Comics (and someone please correct me if my assumption is wrong), then she had access to 6 maybe 8 outstanding retail stores that are professionally run with some really friendly, helpful people. Female customers in Comic Oasis, Dark Tower Comics or Alternate Reality Comics are in no way out of place. I've been to some really skeevy comic book stores all over the world, but there's something about the retail meat grinder in Las Vegas that kills any store that doesn't perform exceptionally and cater to as wide a cross section of potential readers as possible.
So she had some really good reference material available for Master Comics.

I don't know if Zane can die or not, but I do think his lifespan was extended until he either (a) regains the master comic, or (b) finds someone else he deems "stupid enough" to take on his responsibilities. For the record, I really don't like him all that much- most of the time I just want to strangle him for the way he acts around Jo and the other kids.

Hello all. I'm new to the boards, and fairly new to the books.
I hope I'm not out of line here, but didn't Zane get the shop from the owner before him? And it seems to me he feels he was tricked into taking it over. I agree with Pyrelight, that Zane's lifespan is extended til he can pass the task and shop on. I really like the Comic Shop and think it's one of the best parts of the storyline.
