So I just finished Cheat the Grave ... While I was gratified to see Warren get called to the carpet for the consequences of his choices. I cannot help but wonder how much of his bad decisions really were fully informed -- he was working on Tekla's guidance.
This doesn't excuse him for his betrayal of Zoe but it does make me question that if like Hunter, he made some of his worst choices in a vacuum, acting on what was known and doing the best he could.
To paraphrase Vicki, if Tekla kept the full spectrum of truth from Warren and manipulated his personal demons to force him to act in the absence of full knowledge, then wouldn't the bad choices he had made as a leader be a false negative?
I am not condoning Warren -- particularly when he acts out of pride and he allows his hubris to override the facts, but isn't it possible that like Jo, and Hunter, he too has been manipulated and played?
I think Warren needs to be held accountable and I think that day has arrived. What I also think is that Warren has the potential to redeem himself now that the cards are on the table and we also know that he's been played like a fiddle by Tekla.
I guess my point is that I don't think Warren is truly a bad guy, I think that like everyone else, he's a shade of gray (okay, maybe a slate gray but it's still gray).

I don't really think he's a shade of gray, to be honest...I think he's so starkly light that everything he does looks so close to being evil...whenever you're dealing in polar opposites, the strongest extremes can begin to look very similar...

Very well said. To place that sentiment in our own lexicon, it's like when you look at the extreme left and the extreme right and find that they look more alike than not. Intersting food for thought, thanks!

I can't get past his quote on page 40 of CHEAT THE GRAVE: "All mortals are subject to my whim."
What a bastard. It makes you wonder what else he's done that we don't know about. Pig.
