Hey Vicki! I was curious about how you decide what to name your characters. Do you find names you like and then tie those in with characters already created, or do they come to you as a "complete package" with name in place? And how important is the name to you? Most of the characters I can't imagine with any other name, they fit so well. Thanks! I'm loving TOT, like I knew that I would!

Yes she did, as the result of a contest from The B&N board, right Raven? But I can't remember which one it was? ?

Most of the characters I can't imagine with any other name, they fit so well. Thanks! I'm loving TOT, like I knew that I would! I once heard an author say that character names were so important that if you changed the name then you shook the foundation of their world. I agree with this after a certain point, but when things are new and nebulous, I find it easy to simply give them names that I enjoy. Novel ones, but not too out there. Skamar didn't have her name until I was finished writing TOUCH, but that makes sense...she didn't have her own look or personality until then either. And I like it when my readers offer up names. I don't need any right now, but next time I do I'm going to come to you guys. {g} And I'm so glad you're enjoying Tater(ToT)! {s}

I tried giving a new name to my main RP character once (Rogue and tried to turn it into Raine) but after I did that I ended up with a completely different character just because of the name change. XD There were another set of characters I made where their names were interchangeable.
Anyone else have that problem at all?

so who'd you get to name? Ummm.... duh? It's a minor Shadow agent. The name is only mentioned once. And in Harvest. But I get the giggles to see it.

Wow, Vicki! You didn't have Skamar named until the end! I like the meaning behind her name though.
Is it too late to name the Tulpa? I mean for the "naming" purposes. Considering he's already fully formed and all, I'd assume so.

I'll be honest, I've never tried to rename characters randomly...The only reason I could think of to do it is because the name is too close to another of my character's but I generaly look into that before I start...That's true for both RP and writing...

It is a sexy avvie. XD
Well, I was renaming her because I was toying with the idea of writing a comic book series but I think that Rogue would sound a little too... yeah... Cause that's her name. I can't seem to rename her without that name changing the character.

Yep, too late to name the Tulpa. His creator is dead. That's why...
SPOILERS**********
Skamar specifically needed Jo to name her. She is of Zoe's bloodline and she's an active star sign (not to mention the Kairos) so the energy from Jo would be enough to allow her to begin squaring off against the Tulpa. That's why Zoe sent Skamar after her.

What would've been different about Skamar had Zoe named her? Would she had been weaker or something?

Well, there's only so many names out there...there are crossover names between Marvel and DC for example...Besides, sometimes just adding "The" before it can make all the difference...
