Made these tonight for a cookie swap. They turned out great! They remind me of those chocolate oranges you smack to break into segments.
Orange Dark Chocolate Chip Cookies 1/2 c butter 1/2 c butter flavor shortening 3/4 c white sugar 3/4 c light brown sugar 2 eggs 3 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp orange extract grated rind from one orange juice from one orange 2 1/4 c all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 2 cups Hershey’s Special Dark chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350. Spray cookie sheets, use parchment, or grease lightly. Cream the butter, shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, orange juice, orange extract and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.Combine the dry ingredients and the orange peel and stir in to the creamed mixture. fold in chocolate chips lightly and chill for 30 minutes or so. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on baking sheet and bake 8-10 minutes until light golden brown and still soft, but set in the middle. Let cool on the cookie sheet for 5 minutes and then remove to cooling rack or counter. 3-4 dozen cookies.
I found the batter is not very firm. Chilling definitely helps. Also, make the cookies smaller than you think you should, they spread out quite a bit.

Yum, sounds good, can't wait to try them. Hope the weather clears up before tonight. I baked all day yesterday, well almost all day.

oh ... not sure if this goes here or in the peppermill thread, but there's this store that I ADORE in my mall called Teavana....they sell tea pots and cups and sugar and brewers and TEA! lots and lots of TEA! found on that I swear tastes like hot chocolate with a shot of mint in it. it is amazing. they also have a website for people to go poke at and buy stuff from, but it's so much better to go into the store and SMELL....they'll open tins for you so you can smell the leaves ... oh, it's all loose leaf tea, but that makes it taste better (hence all the brewers). definitely worth the experience.

I'd say here, Elle, since Peppermill might be about drinks, but mostly alcoholic near as I've ever thought...

I'm dusting off this thread in preparation for the holidays. What dishes/recipes are traditional holiday fair for you guys? Something you only make once a year? I'm looking for something new to go with my sweet potato casserole and green bean casserole.
