Dudes, don't worry about this. I love BBB, I think they do a great service to authors, but these polls drive me crazy. Make me feel like I'm running for HS President. Other authors get into them, rally their readers -- my readers, well, *read.* I don't need a fan club. I just want people to carry the books around in their minds, think on them fondly every once in awhile (or not, as the case is w/CoS *eg*) and have a place to hang my cyber-hat. Now, the Amazon reviews on the other hand? Those could use some tidying up. Someone gave me two stars because they were pissed about the price of the Kindle. J had to buy me a stiff drink after telling me that!

It's funny you should mention reader reviews on bookseller sites like Amazon, Borders, etc. because there are more than a few authors who rally their troops to the cause of honest reviews for the books they like on those sites.
Without naming names, many of the authors who campaign for votes also campaign for reviews. It's pretty much standard operating procedure these days.
I don't think there is anything wrong with this since an honest review is just that and potential readers respond to books that have a lot of reviews -- volume seems to have a big influence.
I think a few of us can lend a hand to the cause. I'll give it a go over the next couple of days. I am sure others will too.
I guess this means you can drink for joy instead of fortitude when reading reviews from readers in the not so distant future.

You might not need a fan club, V, but you got one whether you like it or not! And shoot, I keep meaning to do the review thing, and keep forgetting

Go, DL! Do it now! Also, those 2-star people are stooopid, not highly evolved, intellectual people like ourselves, so there! ;P

Haha, I saw "Bitten by Books" and got curious. What can I say...I like to see what people say about my reviews, LOL.
I actually stopped going to a writer's forum because she emotionally blackmailed her readers during one of our polls. She went off about how she gives all her spare time talking to the readers and helping new writers and she can't believe she wasn't blowing away the competition. Even threatened to stop giving lessons if she didn't win the poll. Made me physically ill. I told Rachel (the owner of BBB) about it and I haven't seen the author on the polls since. ::evil grin:: Might be coincidence, might not. : )

It's good that Rachel stays up on things like that. Hmm, I wonder if it was the same author that insulted followers on Twitter for not buying her book during the first week of release? As for Vicki, she doesn't have to get all twitchy and rabid, her readers can do that all by themselves. LOL

I can't imagine Vicki acting like that unnamed author. Demanding, childish behavior like that is a fast way to drive readers away. Until I started 'talking' to Kim and then Showgirl, I never bothered to get to know authors.
I only "know" these 2 but I feel like they are 2 of the best ever.

Hmm...I'm intrigued about the Twitter assaults. The one I'm referring to is pretty popular and she moonlights as a pop culture reviewer.
Yeah, Rachel doesn't put up with much, lol.

jackie, maybe you can help me out. There's supposed to be a virtual launch party this week at BBB for Jeannie Holmes' release, Blood Law, but I can't find a link or mention of it anywhere on the BBB site. Any ideas?

The virtual launch for BLOOD LAW is scheduled to start at noon (central time) July 7 and run through July 8. Come chat with me. Find out more about the vampires of BL and enter to win one of three Amazon.com gift cards.
Rachel should have the info up tonight. I was late in getting it to her due to my traveling today (July 6) from Mobile to NYC for ThrillerFest.

Rachel began the Facebook/Goodreads/Blood Bank assault last night. If she didn't remind me so many times, I'd forget to come to the events!! I'm super excited you're having an event with us, Jeannie. I've been looking forward to your book for a while.
