Have fun, Mouse! We'll miss you. Hey, I'm in D.C.! We'll be on the same coast for once! Don't mind the smell- that's just the pile of bullshit coming from Capitol Hill. (Hey- when did I pass you up in post count? Yeah, when you get back here you gotta kick Vampy's ass again. I like you riling him up.)

I need some advice. (Maybe we should start a thread, but I don't want to start a thread with this. Too depressing.)
What do I get for a 15-year-old girl who is in the hospital (probably) dying of brain cancer?
When they first found a tumor and removed it, I got some teen quiz books. You know, the "Do you prefer coke or pepsi?" type. But she was post-op, back home and recovering. It's bad now. She's back in the hospital, stuff has spread and she's in lots of pain, can hardly open her eyes and isn't likely to read, which was a favorite pasttime of hers.
I'm thinking teddy bears are played out. She's probably got tons by now. She and her sister are quite the fashionistas, I can't possibly keep up with, much less afford their clothing trends. Balloons and flowers are gonna fade and die.
What can I do? I don't want to do a gift card. I want to cheer her up now. Let's face it. We don't know if and when she'll be getting out of the hospital or doing and shopping. But I want to get her something. In the past, books were perfect. But she's having a hard time focusing and keeping her eyes open now. So that's OUT.
Please, give suggestions. What else can I get a bed ridden teenage girl?

Audiobooks, as long as she has a CD player. They can be expensive so you might consider volunteering to get some from the library for her and exchange them when she has finished with the first lot.

Audiobooks were my first thought too If she has an mp3 player, maybe some itunes cards for more music or if she doesn't you can get them fairly cheaply. Or maybe a small tape recorder so she could record a daily journal.

Thanks guys. I thought of something else too. I might get her some stuff to make friendship bracelets. Give her something to do. She could give them to visitors and any nice nurses or whatever. I'll get embroidery thread is tons of different colors and maybe beads and a plastic container to keep it all in. I loved doing that when I was a teenager. Just braiding and making knots. She can do it in bed and with her eyes closed if she wanted. I could teach her. And it's something she could do with her sister, who is 17 and spends lots of time there too.
What do you think, Theresa? I really value your opinion, being you have a teenage daughter. Is that corny? Would Ailish gag?

Ailish thinks that's a great idea! In fact, she still makes those! She also mentioned the ones you can make with hemp and beads.

Good idea! That is so cool of you to teach her that. I bet she loves it!

I think those are great ideas. You could offer to read to her if the audio books don't work. I am sure just having someone visit means a lot to her and her family. It is so hard to watch a kid be that sick. Puts all our petty day-to-day problems in perspective, doesn't it? My thoughts are with you.
