I know some of you guys read her Vampire Diaries series.

I read it as a teen and then over and over again as an adult.
A new sequel called The Return: Nightfall was just released.

And then I came across this little article that said the series is being made into a tv show!

Vampire Diaires Casting Begins

The CW is making another vampire series

The CW Picks Up Vampire Diaries

The CW has reunited with Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and "Dawson's Creek" writer Kevin Williamson to executive produce and write. Julie Plec ("Kyle XY") is also on board to write and executive produce.

The CW’s Vampire Diaries
On Friday, Variety reported that Steven R. McQueen, grandson of the late Steve McQueen, was cast in the role of Jeremy, younger brother to female lead Elena (which has yet to be cast).

^WTF? Elena didn't have a little brother! She had a tiny baby sister who was like, 4 years old.

Ohh noo! I'm seriously starting to HATE it when books get made into shows or movies! It just ruins them!
Little brother? Huh? And that boy doesn't look so little either! Seriously, what's going on?

I finished the book. It's obviously not the last of new sequels, judging by the ending.
*sigh*
It wasn't great.
Lots of Damon, which I liked.
The villians were stupid, which I didn't like.
Bugs. Yes, insects. And trees. Mmmyeah... No.
Something else that annoyed me was that it's set only like 2 weeks after the last book, which was written (and set) in the 90's. Yet SUDDENLY, as never before, they have cell phones and computers and VIDEO CHATS!
WTF? A little consistency, please?
Stefan was gone for like 80% of this book which SUCKED. I like him. I like the love triange aspect of this series.

OMG. The Elena worship has gone too far. As if it wasn't bad enough that she was queen of Robert E. Lee High School before.
No.
Now she's an angel.
Literally.
And I don't remember how this happened because I haven't read the original series in YEEEEEEARS. But she was dead and then a spirit and then a vampire and then an angel and then a human.
But there were times where Elena was a child in a grown-up teenager body, kinda. She forgot how to speak and walk. So she'd float around and they'd have to tie her down where'd she bob around like a balloon. LAME!
But then she had these angel wings and powers and it just was too much. She's not perfect, okay? Jeez.
And can Matt be any more of a wussy?
Bonnie and Meredith need to have lives outside of Elena's drama. Please. Give them some action. Okay, Meredith is supposedly still "seeing" Alaric, but he's off in South America or something. Let's not take attention away from Elena, of course.
And there's an instant where maybe Damon has a flash of attraction to Bonnie, but then maybe not. Of course not. He's gotta worship Elena! That got annoying.
The book was HELLA long and the ending was a cliffhanger, so there's definitely more to come.
I'm curious, so I'll read it. But I'm glad I didn't buy this one.
And that makes me sad. Because I've read no other book series as many times as I've read the original Vampire Diaries and Secret Circle ones. I loved them as a teenager and have read them again as an adult. But this one wasn't quite up to snuff.

I watched Vampire Diaires. It was okay. Elena is soooooo not Elena. WTF were they thinking?
Elena Gilbert has blonde hair! And they cast a chick with dark brown hair.
Here's my theory. They're trying to NOT look like they're copying off True Blood, so they didn't want another blonde female lead human falling for another dark haired vamp dude.
I can't iamgine why else they'd basically destroy one of the main things about the main character of the series. Whatever.
They did pull a True Blood on a best friend, Bonnie. In the books, Bonnie McCullough is short, with long, curly red hair. On the show, she's black. *cough*Tara*cough* They even changed her last name so it's no longer Irish. Niiiice one. So, Bonnie's still got the druid/psychic thing going on, which is good, but they took away her cuteness and made her sultry.
Then there's Caroline Forbes. (If they didn't change her last name.) She's supposed to be tall, thin, and model-like with tan skin and auburn. But nooooo. They make HER blonde. WTF? She makes a play for Stefan and he just blows her off right away.
AND WHERE THE HELL IS MEREDITH?

Okay, so Aunt Judith has become Aunt Jenna. Why? I dunno, but that's no biggie.
What happened to cute little 4 year-old sister Margaret? Nada. Now Elena's got a brother. No such thing in the books. And he's a teenager like her. A drug-addict too! Jeez!

Oh, and in the books, Stefan lived in a boardinghouse owned by an old lady named Mrs. Flowers. It was described as pretty dilapidated. Now, he lives with his "uncle" (descendant) in a pretty fly house.
Big issue for me is that in the books, the Salvatore brothers were from Italy and Stefan was new in town. Now, in the show, he's coming home, having been away for awhile and only pretending to be new. WHAT? The Italian thing was part of the allure!
And the crow. In the books, Damon became the crow. (Among other things.) On the show, he controlled it or something, because we saw him as human and the crow in the same frame and Stefan said something to him about the crow. So WTF?

Another thing- on the show, Stefan pursued Elena, in the books, he avoided her.
Okay, so I expected differences. But some are just BAD. I don't like Elena. And she is the core of the show. They showed her wearing Chucks. Don't get me wrong, *I* like Chucks. But Elena Gilbert was like the fashion icon of her school. I used to roll my eyes at some of her putfits, but I remember the way she was described as the Queen of Robert E. Lee High. She was Miss Popular and elegant. She wasn't this girl. And a big part of her was her golden hair.
*sigh*
So I'm kinda disappointed. I've read these books dozens of times as a teen, and even a few times as an adult. More than any other books I own because I've had them for so long.
Everything I've said above about the books is from memory. Sad, I know.

Of, I think the Stefan casting is good, but Damon isn't so great. He seems too weasely. The Damon in my head is more manly or something. Oh well.

The show is set in "Mystic Falls" and the books are set in "Fells Church" Virginia.
When I lived in Virginia near the real Falls Church and discovered it for the first time a few years ago, I was like, "OMG! Vampire Diaries!" 'Cuz I'm a dork like that.

I think I read one of the books a long time ago. I did watch the first ep. ::shrug:: It's ok, I guess.
I'm just not the target demographic. I may watch a few more before I make my final decision.

Yeah, I saw it too. I said the same things about Elena and Bonnie...
I think the way I'm gonna start watching this show is to completely seperate it from the books...cuz there are just way too many differences.
Vicki is Matt's sister? Elena's brother, Jeremy, and Vicki hooked up?
Damon, I pictured him another way too...Tall, dark and handsome with that signature dark side/bad boy thing about him. This one just looks...wrong for the part. (I'm also annoyed they made him control the bird instead of turn into it.)
Anyway, I'm relatively happy about the acting, it wasn't B-movie crap like Twilight.

I watched it to. It was OK and it has no real competition in that slot as far as I'm concerned.

It was okay but not great. I think Elena was cast cause she sorta looks like the actress in Twilight. Long dark hair, etc. Never read the books. Pretty predictable. May watch once more, but as I have other things to watch in that time period, I am okay with not sticking with it.

Ok so i read the books including the newest one. I liked them and as i said in the "what are you reading" thread SM did help herself to the story (well i think she did), I like the tv series (especially Damon YUM YUM Ian Somerhalder) but i wish they included Elena's obsession with getting Stefan (coz you know it would of been funny ;))

Issues with the new one -
The Japanese twins WTF, and being able to control Damon - not bloody likely. I did like that he calls Bonnie his little witch :) and fuck Matt was annoying, but Damon making up acronyms to remember his name lol lol lol or calling him Mutt :P Stefan being al glowy and shit ??? and calling Elena his lovely love GAH. I totally agree with you Raven about Bonnie and Meredith and the tree stuff = Sooopid.
Will read the next one as i am curious and will cross fingers there is more Damon :-*
